LAKE FOREST LIGHTNING SWIM TEAM
SPARKS PROGRAM- is designed for 4-6 year olds by June 1, 2023 who are not quite ready for the swim team but are comfortable in the water. Practices are conducted in small groups with an in-water and hands-on coach. Sparks will have the opportunity to participate in a “mini meet” at 5:15 pm before the competitive swim meet starts. Advanced Sparks will gradually work up to a 6 & under level and "graduate" when ready.
The Sparks roster is limited.
COMPETITIVE TEAM
The competitive swim team is for swimmers ages 5-18 by June 1, 2023. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool without assistance under one minute.
6 & UNDER YEAR OLD AGE GROUP- This is our entry level group. A swimmer does not need to know strokes but must be able to swim the length of the pool without assistance under one minute. If during evaluations and time trials a swimmer cannot meet the requirements, the coaches have the right to move them to the Sparks program. Our biggest concern is safety in the water.
7 & 8 YEAR OLD AGE GROUP- In addition to learning freestyle and backstroke, the butterfly and breaststroke are introduced.
9 & 10 YEAR OLD AGE GROUP- Concentration on all 4 strokes at this level as well as starts and turns.
11 & 12 YEAR OLD AGE GROUP- At this level the events are now 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool)each in addition to the 100 freestyle event.
13 & 14 YEAR OLD AGE GROUP and 15 & UP AGE GROUP- Practice focuses on conditioning and stroke work.
EVALUATIONS
Freestyle and backstroke, the butterfly and breaststroke are introduced. Evaluations are required for swimmers who are new to Lake Forest Lightning as well as all Sparks swimmers.
