HOME meet vs Grand Cascades on Thursday 6/20
Good afternoon Lightning families!
Our meet this week is a HOME meet. We will be swimming against Grand Cascades.
Before we get to meet information, I wanted to send out information regarding the rest of the season. Our last “regular season” meet will be next Tuesday, 6/25. Please go ahead and declare your swimmer for Tuesday’s meet. Coaches will be working over the weekend to get this meet ready to go for Tuesday, so make sure you have declared your swimmer as “attending” or “not attending.”
Then, on Wednesday, June 26, we will have our end of season party at the pool. Giorgios will be catering a delicious meal. Please click HERE to RSVP for this event. We need to make sure we have enough food for all. Also, we always have a parent relay, where our parents swim against the coaches. The parents win every year, and it’s always so fun and very competitive. If you would like to swim in our parent relay, please email us to get on the parent relay team!
Finally, our last event of the season will be the ASA Championship at Georgia Tech on Friday, June 28 at 9:30. The cost to participate in this meet is $48. If you are participating in this meet and have not done so already, please go ahead and submit your payment for the meet. You can pay by cash, check, or venmo @lflswimteam. Also, please make sure you click HERE to fill out your race preferences for the meet.
Now for meet information:
- Coaches are still actively working on the lineup for Thursday’s meet. They are checking and rechecking to ensure there aren’t any errors. Please remember that based on the number of swimmers we have compete Thursday night, your child may only have 3 events total. If your child is a 6 and under swimmer, they may only have 2 events. If they only have 3 events this meet, the coaches will make sure they have more the next meet.
- Once coaches have lineups complete, you can see your child’s events in the swimtopia App. This probably won’t be available until Thursday after practice.
- Swimmers need to arrive at 3:45 to begin the markup process. All swimmers need to have their arms marked with the Event, Heat, Lane, and Stroke. If you have swimmers that are 6 and under, 7-8, or 9-10, please also write their name on their upper left shoulder. If you need help with this, please make sure to arrive early so a coach or bullpen parent can help mark your child's arm.
- Warm-ups will start promptly at 4:15. Our team will warm-up for 30 minutes, and then Grand Cascades will start their warmup at 4:45. The Sparks meet will begin at 5:15 sharp. (Sparks families – you do not need to arrive with your swimmer until 5:00.)
- Each week we will have a theme for our meets to make it fun for the kids. This week’s meet theme is selected by the coaches, and they have chosen a Hawaiian theme night. Parents, feel free to wear Hawaiian themed gear.
- Please remember parking will be a challenge Thursday. Make sure you follow all parking signs in the neighborhood. Car pool, walk, golf cart if you can.
- .Don’t forget to bring cash for the concession stand. (Venmo charges us an extra fee.) New this year, we will have barbecue sandwiches from a Lake Forest family for sale. We will also have pizza, burgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, candy.
- If you have signed up to volunteer, please check in at the lower level of our clubhouse by 4:30. If you volunteered as meet set-up, you need to arrive by 3:00 PM. If you signed up as a bullpen parent, you need to arrive by 3:45 to help with marking arms. Timers need to arrive before 5:00, as we will have a timer meeting in the lower level of the clubhouse at 5:00, when our league official arrives.
2 more things:
1. If you signed up to volunteer during Shift B, please make your way to your position around event 42. Also, please do not leave your post until someone comes to relieve you for your volunteer shift. This is especially important for Bullpen shifts. 2. Please be aware of your surroundings when you come on deck to video your swimmers. We had a swimmer last week almost miss a race because a parent stepped in front of them, and they couldn't make it to the blocks. So we just ask that you stay behind any coaches, swimmers, and meet workers. Thanks for your help in this!
I think that’s all for now. Please let us know if you have any questions!
Looking forward to Thursday! Go Lightning!!
Heather Otwell
